Chapin, also known as the Capitol of Lake Murray, is a small town that offers much hospitality to newcomers and locals alike. Quaint shops and boutiques line the downtown area and many of the businesses are locally owned. Located just off I-26, it’s a hop, skip, and a jump to Columbia for those looking for fine dining, arts, and cultural experiences.
For those who love to be active and outside, there are two recreational parks and a state park in the area. Crooked Creek Park and Melvin Park offer athletic fields, multi-purpose areas and Melvin Park even has a splash pad where little ones can cool off during the dog days of summer. Dreher Island State Park consists of three islands on Lake Murray. The outdoorsman can find plenty of activities including walking trails, fishing and water activities.
The draw for many to the town of Chapin is notably the proximity to Lake Murray. It doesn’t matter if you live on Lake Murray or not, there are public boat ramps, marinas, and restaurants on the lake. Many communities offer lake access, and a few even have their own private marinas. Lake homes are highly sought after.
